Insects and bugs that thrive in the house are exceptionally annoying,
even if they don’t do anything harmful. But if there’s one insect that
can really get into someone’s nerves, then that would be the common
house fly. House flies are just everywhere, even if you have already
closed your windows and doors, and they land on almost every place they
can think of.
Flies are annoying not only because they can be distracting as they fly
from one place to another, but because they are a sign of an unsanitary
place. This means that even if you have cleaned all the areas of your
house, there is one part that was left unclean, and that’s where the
flies will go to.
Flies are also dangerous as their carriers of dirt and bacteria. These
flying insects are present in garbage and rubble, and they don’t care if
they flock to something that should be kept clean, such as food and
drinks. If you are fed up with the presence of flies in your house
despite having your home clean and disinfected, then you can address the
issue by using different anti-fly solutions, beginning with:

- Homemade Flypaper – While there is commercially available
flypaper which you can purchase in the supermarket, you can also
come up with your own homemade flypaper. Its ability to catch flies
is proven to be effective in catching flies, and it is as well easy
to make.
When making homemade flypaper, you will need a pair of scissors, a
brown paper bag, a shallow pan and some string. You will also use ˝
cup of maple syrup, two tablespoons white sugar, and another two
tablespoons black sugar. All you have to do is to mix the
ingredients in the pan, then cut the brown paper bag into one-inch
wide strips. Once you have the strips ready, sew them like hanging
blinds using the string. Soak the strips in the sugar mixture for 8
hours, then hang them in areas where the flies flock the most. Once
the flies check the strips, they are stuck.
- Water bags – Another effective tool you can make to get
rid of flies is by hanging plastic bags filled with water near the
doorways. This method is used by people who live in farms and
pastures, as well as those who take care of orchards and fruit
stands, as this technique is said to be safe and every effective.
One theory behind the “water bag” fly repellant is that the
reflection of the water disorients the flies’ sense of direction.
Flies are said to have poor gauge of places thus they easily get
confuses as to where to go, unless nothing or nobody distracts them.
Another theory is that the reflection of water bags provides the
illusion of spider webs, which is among the most dreaded enemies of
flies. Either way, the use of clear water bags prey on the flies’
poor senses, making them vulnerable for annihilation.
But water bags are only effective outdoors, especially when the
sunshine gets to strike them and provide reflections and refractions
that make the flies dizzy. Flies also are left unharmed by this
repellant, so it is best that you have a more effective solution in
eliminating flies since warding them off only makes them find new
routes to pester your home.
- Homemade Flytrap – Meanwhile, if you are having trouble
with flies inside your home, you may resort to using jars which can
be made to trap the flies forever inside. What you will do is to
place food which easily attracts flies on the bottom of the jar with
screw lid. Close the lid and poke a few holes in it to serve as the
flies’ passageway. Once they enter the jar, the flies will no longer
be able to get out. This simple homemade remedy is easy to make and
doesn’t really cost much; it can also be thrown away once you have
enough flies in it, or when it becomes filled with flies.
