Flies are interestingly curious insects, thus they will approach and
check out every interesting site they find. This behavior prompts them
to be almost anywhere and everywhere, for it is not only their stomach
which they want to satisfy, but their curiosity as well.
One of the most common places flies flock to is the garbage area. Flies
always find highly interesting subjects in garbage cans such as paper,
plastic, spoiled food, feces and anything else rotten. They not only
swarm near it, they get to touch it as well. Once they have their
curiosity satisfied, the flies will go somewhere else to check out new
stuff, bringing with them the bacteria and other poisonous materials
from all the rotten stuff they sniffed snorted before.

So, given that you know what makes flies happy, you can then get rid of
them by getting rid of the garbage right away. Always cover the trash
bins inside your home and seal the garbage bags tight so the flies won’t
smell them. Afterwards stuff the garbage bags inside receptacles and
close the lid tight, so that the flies as well as other insects and
pests won’t check your garbage out.
While indoors, clean the empty garbage bins right away once they are
emptied of rubbish. Disinfecting them is important as flies can still
smell and track their scent, and when they do, they’d come back to your
house.
Meanwhile, when flies tend to infest your outdoor yard, then here some
things you can do:
- Clean up all animal waste by scooping them in a plastic bag and
dispose it in a tightly sealed garbage bag away from humans and
animals. There are chances where stray dogs or pets would check the
garbage can and cause the waste to spill over.
- Wash your pet dishes right after feeding.
- Rinse pet areas everyday.
- Clean their litter boxes at least two to three times everyday.
- Do not dump leftover food in the trash can. Place them right
away to the garbage disposal.
- Cover the trashcans tightly and make sure that they cannot be
opened by accident.
- Rinse bottles and cans before throwing them to the recycle bin.
- Rinse your kitchen with a lemon-baking soda mixture in order to
remove the odors which attract flies to come in.
- Seal the bags in which you store food waste and other items
which cannot be thrown into the disposal, such as bones and diapers
before handing them to the garbage collector.
- Refrigerate foods and keep no dirty dishes on the sink.
- Fix holes and tears in window and door screens.
- Keep rugs and carpets clean.
- Make sure that there are no dead animals such as rodents around
your house as the scent of dead animals call the attention of flies.
